Abstract

A community book listing the objects collected by the H.M.S Royalist from the islands of Kiribati in 1892.

Description

This book describes the history of the H.M.S Royalist in Kiribati. In 1892 Admiral Edward Henry Meggs Davis from the H.M.S Royalist declared Kiribati a British Protectorate. During his time in Kiribati he collected 259 objects which were dispersed in museums in Europe and New Zealand. This book brings these collections together, describing their use and materials. The main text is also translated into Kiribati (translation by Atiuta Mataiti).
