| Description: | 104 x 137 mm. Showing a Ugandan scraping bark from the mutuba tree. The bark was made into cloth by the process seen in the following plate. Barkcloth clothes which cannot be washed and are easily spoilt by rain, were quickly superseded by calico ('amerikani') with the influx of Europeans in the early years of the century. Photograph taken circa 1906-1911. |
