HMS Exeter was a heavy cruiser of the Royal Navy. In 1934 she was assigned to the America and West Indies Station as part of the Atlantic Fleet and it was under these auspices that she was sent to South Georgia under the command of Captain Henry Harwood to carry out surveying work. These images were taken from both the vessel and from the Supermarine Walrus aircraft which was used for aerial surveying work.
