Description
"This letter is made up, as it is now printed, from two copies; the one written on four sides of foolscap complete [ff.111-112], and the other, containing the last two pages enlarged, by additional matter, into three [ff.113-114 - by "pages", Rigaud means sides]. This last is a part of what was actually sent to Oldenburg: it has on the back of it a memorandum in his handwriting, "Rec. July 10, 76;" and the identical two first pages, which are wanting in Lord Macclesfield's collection, are preserved in one of the guard books belonging to the Royal Society. Their substance, with some subordinate and unimportant variations, answers to [ff.111-112]." Rigaud.
