Description

Fourth section of a panoramic view, composed of four joined prints, looking down from the Peak onto the city of Victoria, the harbour and the Kowloon Peninsula. The first section of the panorama is largely taken up by a spur of the peak. In the bottom right of the second section are the Public Gardens, with the clock tower at the junction of Queen's Road and Peddar Street above them. In the centre of this section is the gothic Roman Catholic Cathedral, with the Victoria Goal beyond. The centre of the city can be seen in the third portion: at the junction of Wardley Street and Chater Road is the canopy of the Queen Victoria Jubilee statue, with Queen's Buildings on the left and the Hong Kong Club on the right. On the third side of the square is the City Hall, with St John's Cathedral behind that and the three tiers of the Murray Barracks to the right. Government House is at the bottom left of this section. At the extreme right of the picture are the Causeway Bay and Kellet Island. Photograph taken circa 1900.
